OPPORTUNITIES

WARNING: this is a no-edit zone...

Opportunities come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes they're blatant and sometimes they're obscure.

Blatant opportunities are easy. They jump out at us, or body slam us and knock us to our knees. A friend, Nita Shoemaker, shared a blatant one with me today, which I now pass on.

On Wednesday of this week, at TWO MINUTES and THREE SECONDS after 1:00 in the morning, the time and date will be: 01:02:03 04/05/06. This will never happen again.

Now some might ask where the opportunity is in that. It's in awareness. It's in seizing that moment in time on that day and making it special. Set a goal. Make a resolution--not the kind you break, but the kind you keep. Start something significant to you, or do something significant to you.

The obscure opportunities are subtle and often we miss them totally. But knowing they exist, we can train ourselves to be more aware, to slow down long enough to recognize them. Since we learn from experience, the more we do home in and see them, the easier they become to recognize.

An observation: When things are going great for us, we tend to ignore things and we miss those nuggets of gold. It's in adversity and hard times that we latch onto threads and weave opportunities where they might not have existed before then. So when times are tough, rather than damning them, look for the threads and weave the gold.

Look at how many inventions have been born out of necessity. Look at how many turning points in your life (or in your characters' lives) were made during life's lows not its highs.
When things are rocking along, there's little need for change. But change does come, and often we, or our character's are blindsided by it.

The better we become at observing, the quicker we are to respond to changes--and that's where opportunities hide--in change. We don't often welcome change, unless our life is in the toilet, but we do often prosper from it. So it behooves us to see it coming, to act before we're on our backside or our knees from it. The sooner we accept and adjust, the easier time we have of coping with our new circumstances.

So on Wednesday, see that 01, 02, 03, 04, 05 06 as a time of perfect alignment. A chance to embrace a once-in-a-forever event. And view it as a harbinger of change. Perfection, after all, is rarely attained in life--and even more rarely seen in fiction.

Blessings,

Vicki
